More on the Importance of Board Certification

The public needs to know how they can identify attorneys with superior knowledge, ability and expertise. Any attorney can claim to be a "specialist" but in California, attorneys are allowed to identify themselves as "certified specialists" only if they are certified directly by The State Bar of California or an organization accredited by the State Bar to certify such attorneys.

If you are in the process of choosing a lawyer to represent you it can be overwhelming. How will you know whom to trust and who can obtain the best result?

Board Certified Attorneys are highly qualified and have gone through a meticulous screening and passed examinations in their particular areas of legal specialty. Board Certification means that the certified attorney has met rigorous, objective standards and has demonstrated superior knowledge.

Experience - To qualify to be Board Certified, an attorney must have extensive experience in the speciality area including jury trials, mediation, arbitration and pre-trial litigation.

Ethics - A Board Certified attorney must be a current bar member in good standing and without ethical or disciplinary violations.

Education - Board Certification requires the attorney to meet standards for continuing legal education to assure he or she stays current in the specialty area.

Examination - To become Board Certified, the attorney must pass a comprehensive written examination to demonstrate knowledge and competency in the specialty area.

Excellence - An attorney seeking Board Certification must also provide references from judges and attorneys familiar with his or her practice and attesting that the attorney is substantially involved and highly competent in the specialty area.

Choosing a qualified lawyer is a serious process. There are many lawyers, but few who are board-certified. Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment. The attorneys of Blumberg Law Corporation have board certification in Civil Trial Advocacy, Legal Malpractice, Medical Malpractice and Appellate Law.
